Braceless Braces Straighten Teeth in Aurora
Thanks to advances in orthodontic materials, technology and techniques, traditional braces have come a long way. In addition to standard braces, orthodontists now offer clear braces, ceramic braces and lingual braces that are applied to the backs of the teeth where they cannot be seen.
For teens and adults who need teeth straightening, there are Invisalign’s clear aligners. They are nearly invisible and resemble very thin athletic mouth guards instead of metal braces. Invisalign is only available for teens and adults. Adolescents with crooked and poorly spaced or gapped teeth still need traditional braces from the orthodontist. Children and their parents have more options for braces today than ever before, including:
- Clear braces: If your child is self-conscious about wearing metal braces (or being called “metal mouth” in school), then clear braces might be the perfect solution. They are much less noticeable than standard braces.
- Lingual braces: Lingual braces offer a unique solution for children and adults who need traditional braces but who don’t want the appearance of metal braces when they speak or smile. The orthodontist places lingual braces, including brackets and wires, on the backs of the teeth where they are far less noticeable to wearers and others. Lingual braces, however, are difficult to clean and maintain, cost more and move teeth less efficiently than traditional braces. Wearers also report that lingual braces are more uncomfortable than other types and more difficult for the orthodontist to adjust.
- Ceramic braces: Ceramic braces are typically clear or white to blend better with your teeth and are less noticeable than other types of braces. Some even use clear or white wires that also blend with teeth better and make them less visible. Ceramic braces are typically more expensive, but they also move teeth faster than Invisalign.
- Traditional braces: These are less noticeable than the standard braces most adults remember simply because they are smaller and lighter and less obtrusive.
